Does Insurance Cover Chiropractic Care at Newman Chiropractic?

Does insurance cover chiropractic care? What your plan really pays for

Short answer: most insurance plans cover some chiropractic care, but usually only short-term, pain-focused visits, often capped around 12 a year. They rarely cover the advanced therapies that actually correct the problem. And with today's high deductibles, a lot of people pay the full cost out of pocket anyway. Here is how it really works, and how we handle it at Newman Chiropractic.

Does insurance cover chiropractic care?

Usually yes, at least part of it. Most plans cover basic adjustments for a set number of visits. The catch is what they are paying for. Insurance is built around short-term relief, getting you out of pain, not correcting what caused the pain in the first place. Those are two different goals, and your coverage is aimed at the first one.

What does insurance actually cover for chiropractic?

Insurance treats chiropractic like a short-term fix. It pays for what is called active care, a set window of visits meant to calm a flare-up. Once you are out of pain, the coverage usually stops, even if the underlying problem is still there. Think of it like a round of medication. It quiets the symptom. It does not always correct the cause.

What you actually pay also depends on your own plan: your deductible, your copay, and whether your provider is in network.

How many chiropractic visits does insurance cover?

Most plans land somewhere around 12 visits a year for chiropractic. Some go higher with prior authorization, where the insurer has to approve the extra visits before they will pay. That approval takes time, comes with its own limits, and sometimes the visits expire before you can even use them.

Is an out-of-network chiropractor really more expensive?

This is the part most people get wrong. The assumption is that out-of-network always costs more. For a lot of patients, it does not.

Here is why. If you have a high-deductible plan, and many people do now, you pay the full cost of every visit until you hit that deductible anyway. So "I have insurance" can quietly mean "I am paying out of pocket and do not realize it." An in-network visit still has a copay, plus the visit cap, plus a claims department deciding your care.

At Newman Chiropractic, we are out-of-network on purpose. Our pricing is clear and set around your goal, not billed visit by visit. For a lot of our long-time patients, what they pay now is the same or less than they paid through insurance.

Can you use an HSA or FSA for a chiropractor?

Yes. This is the one I most want to clear up, because people get it backwards. Being out-of-network does not mean you cannot use your HSA or FSA. The opposite is true. Every service we offer is HSA and FSA eligible. That is pre-tax money set aside for health care, so using it makes your care cost less, not more. If you have one of those accounts, bring the card and we will show you how it works.

Does insurance cover therapies like decompression, laser, or shockwave?

Usually not. Insurance was built to pay for a basic adjustment and not much past it. The therapies that often do the real work, spinal decompression, Class IV laser therapy, and focused shockwave therapy, are rarely covered, or they get tangled in paperwork and denials.

That was a big reason we moved out of network. Instead of shaping care around what a plan would reimburse, we invested in the tools that actually help people get better, and we price them honestly.

What about Medicare?

Medicare is its own thing. It covers chiropractic adjustments for a specific, documented spinal issue, but not the other therapies or services around it. If you are on Medicare, ask us directly so there are no surprises about what is covered and what is not.

How Newman Chiropractic handles cost and insurance

We kept it simple on purpose:

  • Every program is priced upfront around your goal, not billed by the visit.
  • Our rates start from standard insurance rates with a 15 to 25% courtesy applied.
  • We give you a superbill so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement if you want to.
  • We take HSA, FSA, and CareCredit.
  • No surprise bills, and nothing hidden.

You always know what you are paying, and why, before you start. You can see exactly how it works on our pricing page.

The honest takeaway

Insurance is fine for a short course of pain relief. It was never built to correct the underlying problem, and it was never built around your goal.
